Rep. Israel to Travel to Israel
Washington, D.C.— Today, Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington) will travel to Israel to show his support for the U.S.’s greatest ally as they face the constant threat of rocket attacks from Hamas and gain a firsthand understanding of the Iron Dome Missile Defense system and Israel’s push to destroy Hamas’ tunnel system.
Rep. Israel said, “I am humbled to be traveling to the United States’ greatest ally, the State of Israel, to show my support for the Israeli people during this time of instability. I have always been one of Israel’s strongest supporters in the U.S. Congress, and I will always stand up for its needs.”
Rep. Israel has been a leader on the U.S.-Israel partnership in the U.S. House of Representatives. Three weeks ago, he led a resolution, which expressed support for the State of Israel’s right to defend itself against unprovoked rocket attacks from the terrorist organization Hamas. The resolution passed with more than 160 bipartisan cosponsors. Last week, he led a letter, signed by 106 bipartisan Members of Congress, to the U.N. calling on them to condemn Hamas’ use of civilians as human shields, which is a direct violation of international law.
