Melville, NY— Today, as Americans prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, Congressman Steve Israel (D-Huntington) called on the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to complete a study on whether the arsenic-based drug, nitarsone, given to turkeys to prevent the disease blackhead, increases arsenic levels in edible turkey meat beyond what would occur naturally. Arsenic is a known carcinogen.
